The goal for High Wycombe Cricket Club’s junior section is the same: offer high quality, competitive and sociable cricket for all junior players to support their development and love of the game.
There are four core development targets for the session:
Have the most juniors playing competitive senior cricket than any season before
Ensure we have healthy 14+ player squads at U9s, U10s and U11s for the start of the season
Double the number of girls playing at least one competitive match for the club compared with last season
Host our first ever disability cricket junior match against another team (more information to come shortly!)
Training
See the indoor training plan just here (January to Easter)
Girls teams in green.
One league team: Squads must have a maximum of 17 players for squads with one league team.
Two league teams: Squads must have a minimum of 17 players and a maximum of 26 players.
For U9s to U11s, minimum squad sizes can be reduced to 15 players (U9s) and 16 players (U10s and U11s) for two teams due to requiring less players per match.
Core selection policy
In order to ensure that we are an inclusive club, retaining players at all levels, whilst promoting development and progression opportunities throughout, our junior selection policy outlines the ways in which sides will be selected in order to achieve the inclusion, enjoyment and progression of all of our juniors.
All players are to play in their correct/chronological age groups for league matches.
If an age group are unable to generate/fulfil a match squad then players from a younger age group can be called up to fulfil a fixture (ideally the best player/players from the age group directly below, with this decision to be made in consultation with the Head of Junior Cricket)
Age groups with playing members of over 17 (this may be slightly higher or lower but is at the discretion of the Head of Junior Cricket) at the point of team registration will have two squads;
Warriors - selecting the best 11 players within the age group to be competitive at the highest level
Dragons - inclusive cricket for all players regardless of experience or ability
Teams will be selected on a match by match basis and age group players will be able to represent both Warriors and Dragons
Squads for cup fixtures are to be made up of the best players from all of the appropriate age groups
Only junior players representing HWCC at age group level will be available for senior selection (subject to ECB rules and in consultation with Heads of Cricket)
All players are only able to play competitive cricket for High Wycombe Cricket Club in League and Cup competitions in which HWCC compete in and are not able to play for other clubs unless explicitly agreed upon in advance. If a player was to play a competitive match for another club in any league or cup match without prior approval an automatic 15 day match ban will be issued per match for another club, if there are multiple instances of this breach, this would be brought to the disciplinary committee where a ban length or membership termination would be determined.
For any junior players who play Senior cricket, please review the senior selection policy.
A player can be nominated to be included in the squad one age above their actual age by the Head of Junior Cricket and the age group coaches. If a player decided to take up this opportunity and commit to the above age group, the player will not be eligible for matches in their original age group. (unless this team is short and would forfeit the match otherwise). Parents are not able to request an age group movement.
Girls’ selection policy (add on)
Girls are able to be in the mixed squad for their age group and the U15s girl's team. If selected for the girls team, that takes priority over mixed cricket. Girls are able to play down up to two age groups - the coaches and Head of Junior Cricket can agree to slot them into a squad below their age group instead of their actual age group if this is best for their cricket.
The same rules apply - once they are in an age group squad, they will not be permitted to play up or down unless there is a shortage of players for a match day.
Here are the senior selection policies for reference - Men's and Women's.
Why is there a different structure for U17s?
Due to challenges with opposition last season, our U17s did not get enough cricket, especially if they were in the Dragons team. In 2026, we’ve removed the Dragons team (leaving only one U17s team) and, instead, we’ve added a 6th senior league team. The additional senior team will give more U17s a chance to get game time. With the membership being between senior and junior cricket, we have taken the decision to lower annual subs and do a pay as you play model on match fees. This way you only pay for the cricket you play.
You do not get an additional sibling discount if you have one U17s Playing Member and a Junior Playing Member.
