1. CHELTENHAM LADIES

Cheltenham Ladies Cricket Club is growing and thriving; it competes in the Cotswolds District Cricket Association – Cain & Fuller CDCA Women’s League, in hardball, with 8 other Ladies teams.

Since 2018 we have progressed as a team and squad in the League, from winning just 2 games in our first season to finishing 3rd in 2021

We have two approaches to build the Ladies squad; that is ladies joining the squad, some who have played before and some who have not (either is great!) and progressing players from the Girls into the Ladies squad. We have a very strong Girls section which grows every year! The ethos we nurture in the squad it to both compete at the highest level possible, and also to have fun & be a central part of the local community. We have a cricket Tour planned for 2022!

Our focus is to make the club as welcoming as possible and making a significant contribution to the club as a whole.

We also have a Ladies softball team and 2 Leagues we play in, indoor from January to March, and outdoor over the summer, as well as host a softball tournament in the summer of every year. They provide both an introduction to cricket and a chance to have fun! We have won our Softball League for the last two seasons.

We are committed to developing every member of our squad, whatever their previous experience (and from however long ago!). We have four Level 2 trained coaches, two men and two women. We run indoor training from Feb to April and then take training outside for the summer (Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons, so two opportunities to train (one or both!)

CHELTENHAM CC WELCOMES NEW PLAYERS

We welcome all players to train and would ask you look at our pre-season net schedule on our website diary pages. You can also make contact with Simon Reichwald (the Team Manager) or Jen Cooper (Our Captain) to discuss joining and opportunities to play.

Our view is come and try it, with no commitment, and if you like it then join the club!

As a club it is our mission to foster cricketing talent and ultimately produce players who reach their potential and enjoy their cricket to the fullest.

2. GIRLS

Girls' Membership

Cheltenham Cricket Club offer a safe and friendly environment for your children to have fun whilst learning to play the wonderful game of cricket. As a Clubmark accredited Club, we are recognised for our high standards of cricket coaching and support for junior cricketers. Our girls’ section has expanded greatly over the last two years and in 2023 we are looking to further develop our girls’ section with continued investment designed to offer more opportunity for each girl to reach their potential.

Age groups

A Junior player’s age group is determined by their age on 1st September in the previous year. In 2023 we will be running girls’ cricket for Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15. This therefore means girls who are under that age on 1st September 2022 for the upcoming season.

The club has continued its initiative to upgrade cricket coaching and facilities at all levels. More coaches have attended Coach Education Courses, adding additional qualified coaches to our register. The lead coaches for all girls' squads are ECB qualified coaches. These initiatives will help the club achieve its objectives to improve the quality of its coaching but also improve our coach to player ratios.

ClubSports 365

Our website and app is our members' central communication hub for all cricket matters on and off the field. Once a junior player is registered team managers can email or message a parent to advise on team selection with match details.

New Members

Unfortunately we do now have waiting lists at all age groups. These vary in length however so anyone looking to join our junior girls section should contact our Girls Cricket Manager, Richard Cooper.

Fixtures

We have entered teams into local leagues at U11, U13 and U15. We will also take part in friendlies and festivals across those age groups in a number of friendly and competitive league fixtures. The Club Handbook will have a comprehensive list, and of course will also be posted on our website

Wet Weather

We use ClubSports 365 App to contact members if matches and/or training sessions are likely to be disrupted, but we also advertise such updates via our social media pages.

Cricket Guidelines

The Club are aligned with ECB Regulations & Guidance on issues such as the wearing of helmets, fast bowling directives, junior players in competitive adult cricket etc.

Video/Still photography

We may wish to video players for coaching purposes. In addition, we may wish to take still photographs, e.g. team photographs. It is recognised that some parents may object to this. We will seek consent through the registration process.

Website

Only those details which you personally authorise are available to other members. Any other information which you input is available only to approved administrators within the Club. Registration gives you access to the members' section of the website.

Things for you to consider

  • For the Junior section to be a success we need help from parents, so please:
  • Encourage your child in all endeavours to improve her game and in the adoption of a sporting attitude
  • Support the Coaches and Team Managers. If you are unhappy with any of their actions they will be happy to discuss matters with you
  • Provide appropriate kit for your child
  • Bring and collect your child on time

Support juniors during matches. If your child is playing in a match come and watch; this is most needed at away matches. Otherwise, juniors will still appreciate your support during home matches.

We always need help with scoring, umpiring and coaching. If you are willing to help with any of these, please come forward. Contact Geoff Trett for further information.

3. SELECTION POLICY

CHELTENHAM CC WOMEN/GIRLS SELECTION POLICY

SELECTION PANEL

The teams will be selected by the coaches of the respective age group.

 SELECTION RATIONALE

Cheltenham CC aim to ensure that all girls who wish to play cricket for the club have the opportunity to do so. The ability and experience of the player will be considered to ensure they can safely participate in the particular fixture. Coaches will select a side to ensure the continued development of players and also with consideration to having a reasonable chance of winning that match. Therefore, selection in all teams must be earned by each player based on their approach to training.

NOTIFICATION OF SELECTION

Teams will be announced as soon as possible before the following round of fixtures and then published on the ClubSports 365 site. In the event that a player or parent is unhappy or wishes to discuss their selection then they are to contact a member of the selection panel.

 SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Team balance and requirements to win.
  • All selections will be made with a view to both developing the team and securing a win. Cheltenham CC seeks to ensure that all girls who want to play in fixtures are able to do so. We will identify friendly fixtures as necessary to give opportunities to all.
  • The team balance will vary depending on the nature of the fixture, the opposition, the wicket and the relative experience and ability of players.
  • A player’s performance in previous games will be one of the criteria used to select a team.
  • A player is actively encouraged to share in and celebrate the success of others, compete to the final delivery and demonstrate at all times a commitment to their own performance and that of the team. Players are to act in a positive fashion at all times. All club members are expected to attend training consistently, be punctual on match days, wear club kit and contribute to club events.
  • A player is expected to behave in a manner that reflects well on themselves and the club at all times. This applies both on and off the field. We try to win but playing in the right way is more important

 Commitment

  • A player is expected to come to training and actively work hard. They should seek to develop their physical and mental skills, address their weaknesses and develop their strengths. They should also seek the assistance of the coach and senior players to further their abilities.

Availability

  • Players are to ensure that they are registered on the club website and that their contact details are correct. They are to provide availability for 4 weeks on ClubSports 365 and to give a minimum of 2 weeks notice should they become unavailable. This will remain at the discretion of the selection panel.
